A couple things on my mind...

Hey folks!

About to head out tent camping with the whole fam this weekend! Wish us luck - first time as a family of 9! A couple things on my mind...

1. Superhuman Product x Market Fit (PMF) Survey: I've been doing this survey for clients lately and I just can't speak highlly enough about how much clarity it gives you. The core question is simple:

“If [your company] no longer existed, how disappointed would you be? Very, somewhat, or not disappointed?”

From there, you can get 4 main insights:

a. If more than 40% answer “very,” you’ve got PMF. Pretty straightforward.
b. Break responses down by customer type until you find the group where PMF shows up.
c. Ask the “very disappointed” group what they value most, then spend 50% of your product development going deeper on that.
d. For the group where you have PMF but who answered “somewhat,” ask what they’d change - then spend the other 50% of your time on those fixes.

If you want details on the process, just ask. And if you’d like help running this, I’ve got it down to a science. This - combined with pricing surveys - can make a huge difference for companies of any size. If you're interested in working w/ me at some point, this is a great place to start! AMA.

2. Productive Places: A friend reminded me of this trick this week, and I’ve been testing it out. If your work lets you move around, pick certain spots for certain tasks. That way, when you sit in that chair or walk into that coffee shop, your brain already knows what it’s there to do. It cuts down on the mental switching and keeps you focused.

3. Big 5 Personality Convo w/ Kids: I had a great convo w/ my 11yo daughter Charleston this week that ended up being really fun. Have you heard of the big 5 personality test? It's the most science-backed model for what makes a personality. (Like Enneagram or Myers Briggs but real. jk jk) I told Charleston about it and asked her how she'd score herself 0-100 on the following:

  • Openness: how curious and open to new ideas you are.
  • Conscientiousness: how responsible and organized you are.
  • Extraversion: how outgoing and social you are.
  • Agreeableness: how kind and easy to get along with you are.
  • Neuroticism: how often you feel stressed or upset.

It was so interesting hearing how she perceives herself compared to others, and she got curious on how she and I are the same or different. It just was a fun exploratory conversation that I think. you can do as young as maybe 6/7? Give it a shot.

That's it for this week! Have a great one!

Best,

Blake

Hey Folks! Happy Friday! You doin good? If we haven't met feel free to reply and say "hey." A couple things on my mind... 1. Marketing Calendar vs. Weekly Growth Meetings: I’ve been fractionally leading marketing for about 6 years, and my core thesis has always been to operate on a 7-day cycle where early growth is measured week by week. The issue is that this weekly lens leaves out marketing-calendar moments like Black Friday or big launches, so I’d drop reminders into our weekly sheet but...

Hey folks! Happy Friday! Today the electrician’s at our house finishing the wiring for our new sauna, and I’m giddy. Everett and I spent 12+ hours this week assembling it, and with snow in the forecast next week, we’re hoping it’s ready today. It’s a 10-man sauna, so if you want to swing by for a session, let me know. A couple things on my mind… 1. Stop Treating Your Work Like a Stepping Stone: I heard this great quote from James Clear this week: “When you stop treating your current...

Hey folks! Happy Friday! A couple things on my mind... 1. Every Platform Has It's Own "Speed": I heard this concept in a Kallaway video recently: it's that every digital platform: email, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, blogs - has a distinct pace for how people consume content. If you’re scrolling Instagram and a 35-minute YouTube video appears, you’ll skip it. You’re not in that mode. Everybody keeps ignoring this constantly and keeps trying to move people off platform (“Watch the full...
