A couple things on my mind...

Hey Folks!

Happy Friday. A couple things on my mind…

1. OneSec: I’ve been struggling to stay off social media lately - partly because I’m on it every day helping clients with strategy, and partly because I’ve got a 6-month-old, so the afternoon lull is very real. I came across a helpful extension called OneSec. It doesn’t block social media, but it does encourage me to pause and ask, “Do I really need to do this right now?” That little nudge, combined with full blocks of time for deep work, has been surprisingly effective. It’s helped me put some guardrails around the crack cocaine that is social media.

2. Good Questions: I saw a reel from Chris Williamson this week that listed out some great reflective questions. I happened to have a rare pocket of time, so I journaled through them and found the exercise really revelatory. Here are the questions:
• If money and status were no object, what would I do?
• If I was less afraid, what would I say?
• What actually makes me happy?
• What is my definition of success (without money or status)?
• If I could go back to myself 5, 10, and 15 years ago, what advice would I give? (Other than buy BTC)

I hope these spark a good conversation with yourself this weekend.

3. Watch Survivor With Your Family: I’ve written about this before, but since we’re kicking off a new season, I figured I’d double down. Here’s my case for watching Survivor:
• I’ve noticed that families who watch football together are happier and closer. I want that culture.
• Football is too long and boring for little kids (and let’s be honest, for me too).
• Survivor is in its 49th season for a reason. It’s really good competitive television and accessible for the whole family.

So this week our family will be making game-day snacks, dressing up in our favorite tribe colors, and starting the new Survivor season together - and we are pumped. I highly recommend giving it a shot.

That’s it for this week! Hope you get outside and hug your loved ones this weekend.

Best,

Blake

Hey Folks! Happy Friday! You doin good? If we haven't met feel free to reply and say "hey." A couple things on my mind... 1. Marketing Calendar vs. Weekly Growth Meetings: I’ve been fractionally leading marketing for about 6 years, and my core thesis has always been to operate on a 7-day cycle where early growth is measured week by week. The issue is that this weekly lens leaves out marketing-calendar moments like Black Friday or big launches, so I’d drop reminders into our weekly sheet but...

Hey folks! Happy Friday! Today the electrician’s at our house finishing the wiring for our new sauna, and I’m giddy. Everett and I spent 12+ hours this week assembling it, and with snow in the forecast next week, we’re hoping it’s ready today. It’s a 10-man sauna, so if you want to swing by for a session, let me know. A couple things on my mind… 1. Stop Treating Your Work Like a Stepping Stone: I heard this great quote from James Clear this week: “When you stop treating your current...

Hey folks! Happy Friday! A couple things on my mind... 1. Every Platform Has It's Own "Speed": I heard this concept in a Kallaway video recently: it's that every digital platform: email, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, blogs - has a distinct pace for how people consume content. If you’re scrolling Instagram and a 35-minute YouTube video appears, you’ll skip it. You’re not in that mode. Everybody keeps ignoring this constantly and keeps trying to move people off platform (“Watch the full...
